Farmer of the Year 1999
Encik Edward Alang
voted as Farmer of the Year 1999 at the recent Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen
day in Bintulu is an exemplary farmer.
His 7-acre farm at
Pasai Siong is an hour's drive from the Sibu town centre.
He started his farm
by planting pepper in 1981 and has since diversified into other activities
such as orchard cultivation, rearing of fish and poultry.
A total of 10,000 freshwater
fish comprising red telapia, lampan jawa, catfish, and patin are reared in
his four ponds.
He has thousands of
chicken and muscovy ducks roaming around his farm.

He received some financial
assistance from the Department of Agriculture and since 1997, was given a
subsidy worth RM3,200.
