The SDMC is the highest committee for the monitoring of development projects in the State, particularly the 8MP projects. The Committee comprises of
Permanent Secretaries, Heads of key Departments and Units under the CMD or their representatives and the Federal Secretary for Sarawak Datuk Haji Isa bin Kasim.

YB Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Hussein, the State Secretary chaired the second meeting of the State Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) for 2004 in Bintulu on 30 July. During the meeting, a special briefing on the planning and progress of the Federal Administrative Centre (FAC) to be sited on 2020 acres at Rambungan near Kuching was presented by Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah.

The site was allocated to the Federal Government in 1977. Currently the project is already at an advanced state of implementation planning. Phase One of the complex is planned for completion by the end of the 9MP.

On completion, the complex will be a self-contained administrative centre housing all the Federal Departments, including an INTAN Regional campus. Besides the briefing on the FAC, the meeting also deliberated at length on the progress of the 8MP projects. In his presentation to the Committee, the Director of SIMU, Encik Ismawi Haji Ismuni pointed out that the implementation of the State funded 8MP is generally on track. By the end of June 2004, the cumulative financial performance was over 60% of the 8MP ceiling. In terms of physical performance, 1,295 or over 48% of the projects and sub- projects had been completed.

The performance of the Federal funded projects was presented by Tuan Haji Nasruddin bin Ismail of the State Development Office. It was reported that the financial performance of the Federal funded projects by the end of June 2004 was over 51 %. For the same period, a total of 757 or 45% of the project under implementation had been completed. The Director of Agriculture Tuan Haji Sepuan Anu also presented a briefing on the performance of the 8MP projects under the Department. By the end of June 2004, the DOA had spent 64% and 62% of its 8MP ceiling from the State and Federal Government respectively.

Prior to the SDMC meeting, a site visit was made to the Tg. Kidurung -Suai -Bakam Coastal Road project which is implemented by PPES Works (Sara-wak) Sdn Bhd. The 178 km road with an original contract sum of over RM581 million is the single largest contract awarded to the company thus far by the Federal Government. Based on the site briefings by PPES Works, the project would be completed by September next year. Meetings of the SDMC are rotated among the Divisions. The previous meeting was held in Sarikei. SIMU, the Secretariat for the Committee is planning to hold the next meeting in Kuching.
